Gallowary at the Mississippi State Nurses’ Association Meeting on November 9th, 1937 in Greenville, Mississippi. This paper reports that Mississippi had the highest infection rate for syphilis in the United States with 16,000 new cases per year and 250-300 thousand know cases. It also addresses the cost of syphilis to the state as well as populations needing special attention such as pregnant mothers, children, food handlers, barbers, maids, couples planning marriage and others who render personal services. The need for clinics, testing, and educational programs for adults and children is stressed.
